QUANG NAM, 25 July 2011-Hoi An authorities will develop the first cultural park that highlights the central region’s historic terracotta pottery trade.

The Thanh Ha Terracotta Cultural Park is will be built by Nha Viet Corp, a Ho Chi Min City- based company at a cost of VND22 billion.

Nha Viet Corp architect director, Nguyen Van Nguyen, said the site aims to preserve and promote traditional pottery, while offering visitors an educational sightseeing option.

Covering 6,800 sq metres, the park will preserve and help to develop cultural values and activities due to its location near the 500-year-old traditional pottery village of Thanh Ha.

The park’s central area, shaped like a potter’s turning table, will also feature scale models of cultural heritage sites and famous monuments in Vietnam.

It will have five areas including a display showing the history of the craft and artifacts; an outdoor display area for large pottery statues; a performance area for artisans to show their skills and talents; a creation playground to host craft contests; and a trade and service area.

It is scheduled to open in July 2013 a site 3 km west of Hoi An a famous world heritage town.
