Three million foreigners come to Vietnam in first six months

Vietnam has welcomed over 2.97 million foreign visitors in the first six months of this 2011 year and increase more 18 percent than the same period last year.

More than 446,900 visited Vietnam in June, a year-on-year rise of 19 percent, according to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism and the General Statistics Office.

Most of the tourists came to Vietnam by air with about 371,000 thousand arrivals recorded in June, a year-on-year increase of 25.5 percent.

The number of visitors going to Vietnam on vacation and visiting relatives increased considerably. In the first six months, around 1,8 million foreigners came to Vietnam for tourism purposes, up 11.2 percent over last year, and another 513,000 came to visit their relatives, a year-on-year increase of 77.6 percent.

Cambodia is the top of the list of countries with the highest increase in arrivals to Vietnam, about 77.4 percent, followed by China with 51.5 percent, Malaysia with 16.7 percent, Japan 11.7 percent and France with 8.5 percent.
