DT03: Cu Chi Tunnels half day
This tour is a visit to old battlefields, the famous tunnels in two last wars. You are picked up at your hotel at 8:00 for the hour long drive towards the Cambodian border in Saigon’s northwestern corner. This now famous tunnel system was once the secret home of thousands of brave people whose ingenuity and persistence defines their movement. An unforgettable experience, you will be returned to your hotel in the early afternoon.

The Cu Chi area is famous for its 200 kilometer network of underground tunnels, which were used by the Viet Cong forces to fight against both the French and later the Americans.  From the mid 19940’s onwards, the Viet Cong managed to dig up to 12 meters down on hard soil, using only rudimentary tools.  Most tunnels were only 60-70 centimeters wide, and 1.5 meters high, with thick roofs capable of withstanding the weight of tanks or the impact of bombs weighing up to 100 kilograms.

Before visiting the tunnel system, you will be shown a video explaining the history of the tunnels and their design.  The Viet Cong used them as a base from which they could launch strategic attacks on the Americans and then seemingly disappear.  Unknowingly, the Americans even built a base camp on top of an existing tunnel network, suffering extensive casualties until they discovered their mistake.

The tunnel entrances are well hidden.  Many rooms have been opened and ventilated so that you can more easily experience the underground meeting rooms, kitchen, hospital and sleeping areas.  More adventurous tunnel explorers can experience an unlit tunnel passage which has not been enlarged for the comfort of visitors!

DT05: Cao Dai Temple and Cu Chi Tunnels – Full Day
The combination of these two sites makes this a most interesting and seemingly other-worldly tour combination. With an 8:00 pickup at your hotel, you will ride through the enchanting Vietnamese countryside to Tay Ninh Province the home to the gaudy Holy See Temple of the Cao Dai religion. This unique religion combines elements of many of the world’s faiths and teaches that all religions have the same source and the same desire to discover the beauty of the creator in each person’s heart. You will experience the noon-time ceremony and view the Holy See, the enormous eyeball that represents the purity of the vision. After lunch in a local eatery, the tour will wind its way back towards Saigon with a stop at the Cu Chi unnels, described in the DT03 tour text.  In a sense, this tour contrasts the beauty of the human spirit agains the barbarous nature of war. Not to be missed! You will return to the hotel in time for dinner.

Experience the daily life in the village including pole fishing, being rowed in a small boat in the canal and a special visit to a local countryside traditional home. Other features include a traditional music performance and more. Return to Ho Chi Minh City at approximately 17:00 in time for dinner.

Vietnam's 'rice-bowl' the Mekong Delta is a rich fertile region of flat farmland interlaced with thousands of waterways and tributaries of the mighty Mekong.  Known locally as Cuu Long, or the 'River of Nine Dragons', the Mekong splits into two reaches as it makes its final path through Vietnam before finally dissipating into the sea.  The river provides a lifelong flurry of activity and commerce among its waters and is interspersed with seemingly endless ricefields, colourful floating markets, isolated villages accessed only by boat, and a populace of constantly smiling people.

Travel the bustling highway into the surrounding countryside where you will pass lush rice paddies carefully tended, before boarding your motorised sampan for a unique experience on the mighty Mekong Delta waterways.  You will see how, to the people of Delta, the water is a lifeline - the focus of all daily activity - as you journey through a maze of tributaries and fruit plantations.  Enjoy a sample of delicious fruit in the shade of a fruit farmer's garden before continuing via even smaller waterways to lunch, where the speciality is a remarkable dish of 'elephants ear fish'.
